Next we'll concentrate on the issue of the day. Every session will be focused on a specific topic. This will be known beforehand by the parents and each family should bring their own concerns about it and some real cases they know to illustrate it. From the analysis of the cases and from the search for answers we'll try to draw conclusions that will help us ellaborate educational guidelines which will be dealt with in the next session. These are the ones we drew from the first session to work on this week:

1. Everyday responsibilities. We should make a little list of everyday task our child can be responsible of. They should be feasible tasks for him/her, write them down on a board and put it somewhere he/she can see it easily. It is essential that we don't do anything our child has decided to do him/herself, or else this measure won't work. At the weekend we should discuss with him/her how things are going. That's the time to check whether the assumed responsibilities are being fulfilled and, what's more, why. That's also the time to make the necessary changes in the list.

2. School responsibilities: homework. We must remind our child that homework is his/her responsibility. He has to do it and he must be aware of the bad things that will happen if he/she doesn't do it, as well as of the possitive aspects of doing it. It is essential to keep in mind that it is not our responsibility to do it. We must show interest in it, but we must always remind them that they are the ones to do it. We are not going to check if they have done it. We just want them to get on and learn at school and not be punished for not doing what they should. We also want them to get good qualifications. We mustn't lose our temper or get annoyed at the fact that it takes them so much to get down to do their homework. If anybody's, that's the teacher's role, not ours. It's about convincing them, not forcing them to do anything. They should see us as their support, not as "slavers".
